What is a trigger campaign?
An trigger campaign is one or more automatically sent emails, sent to individual subscribers on your list. The emails go out based on certain trigger conditions, such as a specific date, or a subscriber joining your list.
How many trigger campaigns can I setup?
There isn't a hard limit on the total number of emails you can setup to create a trigger campaign series, and unless you set up a bunch of them, you shouldn't run into any problems at all.
What time are trigger campaign emails sent on the date I choose?
By default, the trigger campaign emails will be sent around 12am on the date that is specified. So if you have a trigger campaign set for a birthday email, within the first thirty minutes that it is a subscribers birthday, the email will go out.
That's based on the timezone set in your account (not the subscriber's timezone which we don't know). If you'd like to send the email at some other point during that day, you can set a more specific time, like 10 hours after [birthday] and the email will go out then (10am in this example).
How do I pay for trigger campaigns? What happens if my credits run out?
Each individual trigger campaign email costs 1 credit to send out (so if you have a birthday email setup, then each person you automatically wish 'happy birthday' costs 1 credit). The credit will be deducted from either your Pay-as-you-Go credits or your Monthly Package allotment.
If your credits run out, then all of your trigger campaigns will be paused. You'll need to get some more credits, and then start them manually again. Don't worry though, we'll email you well in advance when your credits start to get low, so you'll have time to purchase more.
So it is much better to top up your credits before they run out.
What does the 'pause' button do?
Pausing an trigger campaign immediately stops any emails from being sent out, including any that were already triggered. For date based trigger campaigns, any email that would have triggered on a certain day won't be sent if the trigger campaign is paused when the trigger time occurs.
What happens if I edit an existing trigger campaign?
A trigger campaign can be combined with other trigger campaigns to create a series, and you can click through to the trigger campaign's setup page and edit each parameter of each campaign.
The trigger campaign will automatically send out whatever is the current version, and any existing reporting will be kept. New link clicks will just appear in addition to the clicks for the previous content.
If I setup a new 'after signup' trigger campaign, will it go to people already on the list, if they meet the conditions?
No, anybody who is already on the list when you turn on the trigger campaign won't actually trigger the 'on signup' action, so they won't get the email.
It’s important to understand that trigger campaigns are not retroactive. In other words, if your subscribers meet the conditions of your trigger campaign they will only receive your trigger campaign if that condition was created AFTER your trigger campaign. We ignore all actions and conditions that occur before your campaign was created.
Can I change how the trigger campaign is triggered?
No, an trigger campaign is defined by it's type – subscriber profile data, anniversary or specific date. If you need to change that, you'll need to setup a whole new trigger campaign. So it pays to be careful in setting them up.
What format should the dates be in?
The import process is pretty smart and will generally be able to work out what format your dates are in, but the clearest format to use is MM/DD/YYYY if you have the option within your data structure.
If not, then as long as your dates are all consistent in format with each other you should not run into any problems. You can review the multitude of formats that are supported by our native development language here.
How do I delete a trigger campaign?
Just go to your Campaign Manager, and click ‘Trigger’ in the navigation menu. You'll see a list of the trigger campaigns you've setup. You can select the delete campaign icon to remove the campaign.
Be warned that you'll lose all the emails and reporting though, so you might instead choose to click into the specific trigger campaign and just click 'pause'. That will stop all emails from being sent out, and you won't lose any data.
Will importing subscribers trigger a campaign if its based on date subscribed (i.e. New Signup)
Yes, it does. If you do not want to send the campaign on import, simply pause your trigger campaign while importing your subscribers and then activate it after the process completes.
Why don't my trigger campaign emails show my latest template changes
If you create an trigger campaign based on a template, updating the template will not update the trigger campaign campaign (that's to prevent you sending out broken trigger campaigns while you are still working on template updates). If you'd like to apply the template changes to your trigger campaign, jump back into your trigger campaign email and make a change through the content editor (e.g. edit some text).
When you save that change, the new template is re-applied.
If a person unsubscribes and the rejoins, do they start the trigger campaign series again?
No, if a person has unsubscribed from your list, subscribing again will not restart the trigger campaign sequence for them. If they resubscribed when they were part way through a sequence, they will get the future emails still, but it isn't possible for them to go back to the start.
