Just finished configuring my INBOX25 account, how do I set up my first Newsletter?
Well, with our newest release of the INBOX 4.5.1 module (Instructions for installing module with Sugar 6.5.x-6.7.x here) or (Sugar 7.x.x users) clients now have access to configuring SymSync with Target Lists (Pro Marketer Plans only). What Target Lists will allow you to do is segment your database into specific lists for specific purposes.
So, once you've synced your records from Sugar over into INBOX, you're left with a big list of records, with no definitive way of separating them; but you'd like to start sending out your first emails. It's common for users to want to send emails out to only a portion of your records initially (either because this is a group of records you need to get in touch with immediately, or there's a group of records you haven't touched in awhile, whatever the case may be) but you'd like to do so in a clear and efficient matter. Here's a great way to do just that.
First, you're going to want to plan and organize a way to segment your large list into smaller lists. We have a great article on how to segment lists here. We also have an auto-segment option for Target Lists with data in multiple modules. You can view that article here.
First, it's a best practice to weed out all your records that have:
- Have no email address/invalid email address associated with the record
- Outdated records (ones that have just not made the trash can yet for whatever reason)
- Duplicate records
You can create a Target List that will only contain records that fit these parameters, or you can go to your Lists Tab within the INBOX dashboard. Either option you choose, you'll still wind up at the Lists Tab and going to your Suppression Manager. This will help get you more familiar with how Suppression Lists work.
So moving on, now you're left with a slightly smaller list, but still a list that has not been segmented to your specifications. As a best practice, start creating Target Lists that are uniquely named to the purpose they will serve (i.e 'July Newsletter Blast Group'). Once you've created your Target Lists, you will then manually add records to the list, or setup automated workflows that will automatically add records to Target Lists based on the criteria you put forth (i.e geography, data within a certain field inside SugarCRM or any tags associated with records). But before that, go to your Symsync, and sync over the Target Lists (if A) the Target List module was not synced up yet or B) you need to manually sync a specific Target List into INBOX). Wait for Symsync to finish syncing over the Target Lists with the data. Boom! now you're ready to send your first email out to. Simply tailor your automated campaign with the appropriate logic and activate it. You're all set.
