With the enactment of CASL (Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation) many Canadian businesses, as well as international organizations with offices in Canada, are changing policies and practices to become CASL compliant. Our team has been pro-active with researching what being CASL compliant means, as well as have provided a CASL compliant template for our users. You can use this template as a confirmed source to 'opt-in' to future marketing communications and here's how. First, select the CASL template from the Email Template library.
The template comes with stock text as well as a clear CTA button. Users will have the option of selecting the destination URL for this button to confirm that the recipient is opting-in to further communications.
If you add this type of link (http://www.mywebsite.com/#CASL) to the green button in the email, you will be able to do a Campaign Activity Condition for the URL and move leads to a status of inactive if they do not click the link, and in the alternative you can add them to a list segment or Target List if they do click the link. This is a quick solution for users who do not have a form or specific page to send leads to, but still want to collect the affirmative approval of a user to continue emails. The #CASL is an anchor tag that will work universally with any site/browser but it will allow you to track it as a unique URL, even though there is no page.
Segmenting affirmations via Automation
To create an automation track to dynamically add all recipients who affirm receiving further communications, first navigate to the Automation Manager. This can be found by navigating to Manage--->Automation Manager. On the next screen, you'll click on 'Create Track' at the top of the manager.
After you define your target audience, name your workflow and select your matching settings, you will be brought to the condition wizard. For this example, you will select 'Campaigns'.
On the Campaigns settings screen, you'll make sure to select the specific campaign that has been or is going to be deployed, and select the 'Clicked Specific Link' operator. A drop-down menu will appear, and you'll want to select the hyperlink that contains the '#CASL' hashtag.
After you complete the condition and the wait connector, you'll be taken the Action Wizard. You have two options for segmenting all affirmations:
A) Add all affirmations to a SugarCRM Target List. Of course if you don't have SugarCRM this option will not be enabled for you, so you can choose:
B) Create a list segment for all affirmations.
Once you finish setting up the workflow, you will need to activate it from the Automation Manager and you'll be all set. You may wish to create automated tracks for the negative responses (mentioned above) and have both workflows running in tandem.
